Signing of Memorandum of Understanding: Indonesian Christian University (UKI Jakarta) and International University of Papua (UIP) Collaborate in Support of Campus Merdeka Policy
Jakarta, July 26, 2023 - Indonesian Christian University (UKI Jakarta) and International University of Papua (UIP) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the Tridharma of Higher Education, as a concrete step to support the implementation of the Campus Merdeka policy issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The scope of this collaboration focuses on several key aspects, including joint degree programs, credit transfer as part of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, student exchange, publication of scientific journals, faculty exchange, joint curriculum/program development, organization of seminars or conferences, joint research, community service, and other activities based on the needs of both parties. - Indonesian Christian University (UKI Jakarta) and International University of Papua (UIP) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the Tridharma of Higher Education, as a concrete step to support the implementation of the Campus Merdeka policy issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia. The MoU signing took place separately on Friday, July 14, 2023, by Dr. Dhaniswara K. Harjono, S.H., M.H., MBA, the Rector of Indonesian Christian University, and Dr. Izak Morin, MA, the Rector of the International University of Papua. Both universities eagerly embraced the opportunity to enhance their cooperation, contributing to the advancement of education and society in Papua.
Abinus Sama S.Sos., M.I.R, the Vice Rector for Development and Cooperation of the International University of Papua, expressed excitement about the signing, stating, "UIP is ready to collaborate with UKI, one of Indonesia's finest and oldest universities. UKI also has a network of alumni from Papua, including myself, and through this cooperation, we aim to strengthen these connections. We hope that in the future, both parties can involve UKI's Papua alumni in contributing to the development of Papua through educational initiatives."
The collaboration between UKI Jakarta and UIP is expected to yield significant benefits for both institutions. With joint degree programs, students from both universities will have the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences, enhance the quality of education, and obtain dual recognition for their academic achievements. Furthermore, credit transfer as part of the MBKM program will provide students with the flexibility to access a wider range of courses from both universities, enriching their perspectives and fostering interdisciplinary skills crucial in the era of globalization.
Student and faculty exchange programs will also play a vital role in this collaboration. Students will have the chance to study in different academic environments, explore cultural diversity, and develop extensive professional networks. Additionally, faculty exchange will facilitate the transfer of valuable teaching knowledge and experiences between the two institutions, promoting growth and innovation in the learning process.
Both universities are committed to conducting high-quality joint research focused on relevant issues with an impact on society, particularly in the Papua region. Through community service activities, both UKI Jakarta and UIP will synergize their knowledge and skills to make a direct positive impact on the Papua community. Moreover, other activities relevant to the needs of both parties, including seminars, conferences, and events that encourage the exchange of ideas and thoughts, will be part of this collaborative effort.
With the signing of this MoU, UKI Jakarta and UIP reaffirm their commitment to actively contribute to supporting the Campus Merdeka policy, aiming to empower students, strengthen the quality of higher education, and empower educational institutions as drivers of positive change in society.
Following up on the signing of the MoU between UKI Jakarta and UIP which was held on 26 July 2023, Samuel Tabuni as the founder of the Papua Maga Education Foundation (YMEP) as the foundation that oversees UIP had the opportunity to meet and discuss directly with the Rector of UKI Jakarta Dr. Dhaniswara K. Harjono, S.H., M.H., MBA in Jakarta. The meeting which took place on Tuesday 1 August 2023 at 09.00 WIB in the UKI Rectorate room Jakarta, was also attended by the vice chancellor for Student Affairs and Cooperation Dr.rer.pol. Ied Veda Rimrosa Sitepu, S.S., M.A, Dr. dr. Robert Sinurat, Sp.B.S. as Dean and dr. Danny E.J. Luhulima, Sp.P.K. as Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the UKI Jakarta Faculty of Medicine.
Apart from expressing the commitment to do cooperation between UKI Jakarta and UIP as outlined in the MoU, Samuel Tabuni also brought 6 students assisted by the Papuan Language Institute (PLI) to study at UKI Jakarta. The 5 students assisted by PLI will study medicine and 1 other person will take the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Teaching and Education. "In addition to the cooperation plan that has been outlined in the MoU between UIP and UKI Jakarta, we on the part of the Foundation plan that in the future students assisted by PLI and units under YMEP, who wish to study in the field of health sciences, especially medicine, can studying at the UKI Jakarta Faculty of Medicine.” Firmly Samuel Tabuni when contacted via telephone.
